To become an oral surgeon, is it easier to get into medical school or dental school?

I know that you can become one either way. I am 16 right now so wont be going immediately. I was also very interested in radiology. I know that for med school there are 126 schools in America and you must take the MCAT. 50% of those who apply get in. Extremely competitive. I do know that the DAT is needed for dental school but how many are there. Is it less competition to get. How can I keep up my grades in college and what are the best study techniques.

I think that either would give me ample time to be with my family especially if I become a regular dentist or an orthodontist.

Very happy to know you have already thinking ahead, I am sure that your parents are very proud of you. Medical schools required a higher GPA and other achievement than dental school. I have two sons, one had completed medical school, the other is in dental school. Both schools are tough to get in due to limited available students can enroll. The drop out rate in medical school is a higher than dental school due to long hours during internship. Many couldn't cut it. Dental school required less hours and more like a 8:00-6:00 a.m. job.

Yes, it is great to enter both professions. It is much easier to enter medical school after you have completed the dental program than someone didn't.

Have you thought of the expenses? One of my kid has the U.S. Armed Foreces to pay for all the expenses, i.e. $300,000. He is committed to four years duty with the Armed Forces after he completed the program. That's is not a bad option. Serve your country and get your wish the same time. Four years fly by so quickly. You get the real experience after the MD/DDS.

Goo dluck!
