What should I expect at Dentist apppointment?

I haven't been to the Dentist in about 10 years, right after I had my wisdom teeth removed when I was 17. Although I brush 2 or 3 times a day and floss just about every day, bad teeth run in my family. (My dad had to get dentures when he was 19.) Right after I found out I was pregnant, about 2 years ago, I found that I had a hole in center of one of my very back molars. I've wondered if a filling fell out. Over the last couple of years, the tooth has broken off a little here and there. It looks pretty bad. Sometimes it hurts, like when food gets down in it and just this week it has started to feel a little swollen along my gums. I haven't had insurance until just now and am going to make an appointment. I suffer from anxiety, so I was just wondering what should I expect? Also, what do I tell the receptionist I want to see the Dentist for? Just a check up? Or do I need to tell them everything over the phone? Thanks for your help!

What should I expect at Dentist apppointment?
find an understanding dentist like i have

explain the situation, that you suffer from anxiety and it's been so long since your last visit to the dentist...let them know all your fears before you open your mouth, a lot of peopel are scared that the dentist will shut at them or say its the worst mouth they have seen...this wont happen

if any treatment needs to be done im sure the dentist can offer you some medications before the work needs to be done to calm you down, i suffer from dental anxiety %26amp; all my treatment is done under IV sedation which works great
Reply:Tell the receptionist that you need to see the Dr and that it has been 10 years since your last visit! She/he will figure it out from there. You probably should go though. Mouth and gum diseases can effect the heart and other organs!
Reply:You should ask for a cleaning first. Then he will tell you what you need.He will make you get a second appt for filling etc.

Do not worry be calm most of them are easy now and its not like it was 10 yrs ago. They have made advances.

He may have to put you on antibiotic if its infected...

good luck sweetie you will do fine!!
Reply:You do need to tell them about the tooth and all of your problems so they will set aside enough time to check out

the problems. They will probably take an x-ray of the bad tooth,

maybe of all of your teeth since it has been such a long time

since your last dental check up. Tell them if you have nervousness etc. I sure do when I go to a new dentist. I tell them to numb my entire head for a root canal. Just kidding!

Most Dentist are very good. Best of luck.
