Is conscious sedation like Xanax? I know I'll be somewhat conscious, but will that be enough not to terrify me

I'm trying to figure out why or how conscious sedation will allow me to be awake and watch a dentist stick a syringe and drill in my mouth without me knowing/caring. im terrified of this stuff. my dentist also told me to get an anxiety pill from my family doctor. i think the anxiety pill from my family doctor is xanax.. will that work as a conscious sedation pill? are all anxiety medicines and conscious sedation pills have the same affect?

Yes pill is enough, it calms you down and relaxes you so that you are not anxious and your body reacts differently to the pain.
Reply:The xanax is just to calm you down before the procedure. They will put an iv in and possibly give you what is called Versed. Trust me when I say you will not have a clue as to what is going on. Also if you do, then after it is over you will not remember it. I just had an upper GI and under sedation and all I remember doing is asking the doctor a prescription that I needed. I remember nothing about the procedure. Don't worry about it.
