To become an oral surgeon, is it easier to get into medical school or dental school?

I know that you can become one either way. I am 16 right now so wont be going immediately. I was also very interested in radiology. I know that for med school there are 126 schools in America and you must take the MCAT. 50% of those who apply get in. Extremely competitive. I do know that the DAT is needed for dental school but how many are there. Is it less competition to get. How can I keep up my grades in college and what are the best study techniques.

I think that either would give me ample time to be with my family especially if I become a regular dentist or an orthodontist.

First, you need a four year college degree before applying to Medical or Dental school. Dental school is very competitive, as well. Baylor in Texas has a program where the first four years are the same for dentists and doctors (a dentist is a D.D.S.). You specialize toward the end of your training. It takes a lot of time, dedication, perseverence, and commitment to succeed in these fields. I recommend you volunteer while you are doing your undergraduate work and see what you really enjoy the most.

Best wishes.
