Im 23, i had braces when i was a kid... i had it for 5 years! i had a underdeveloped lower jaw and a huge overbite.
The thing is i wasnt ment to have a small jaw, my whole family has big strong jaws, just that when i was little i always sat with my head(jaw) resting on my knee... i sat like that all the time, i remembered i had pain in my jaw because i sat like that for hours in a row playing with my lego and stuff. I think thats why my jaw didnt develop well. And the dentist never put in a twin block or a correcter etc... he just pulled out a couple teeths and put in normal braces... i had to have it for 5 years. Well i got nice teeth afterwards but my jaw was still under-developed. And here i am today... been thinking of surgery but i dont want that, but i just read that you can actually grow your jaw forward with orthopedic corrector, twin block, Herbst, etc.... even if you are an adult!
So any dentists/patients here that have experienced anything similar??
Growing the jaw forward with twin block, Herbst, etc.??
Growing the jaw can only happen if you are going through your growth spurt, ie in and around puberty. Its late for you now, you will have to go for surgery. A herbst can help, but it can only do so if it is not to much of and overbite and overjet.
