I've never been to the dentist before. I'm 15 years old and I don't know what to expect....?

Growing up, my family could never afford to go to the dentist, but now I'm living with other family and I will be able to see the dentist soon. I don't know what to expect, or what to say when I tell him that I'd never gone before. I know I have a couple cavities but otherwise, I have a tiny bit of an over bite. My wisdom teeth are starting to grow in, and as much as I know I shpuld, I rarely floss, and I only brush my teeth about once a day. what can I expect? Also, How often should I go to the dentist for checkups, and does having cavities filled hurt at all? I've had bad experiences with doctors using injections to freeze me as I had a biopsy in my foot that I could definately feel as they did it.

wow you pretty much answered what to tell him "I know I have a couple cavities but otherwise, I have a tiny bit of an over bite. My wisdom teeth are starting to grow in, and as much as I know I shpuld, I rarely floss, and I only brush my teeth about once a day."

im 15 and i went to the dentist this year after not going since i was about 6. it acctually wasn't that bad the dentist will check if you have any cavities and if you do you'll have to get them filled but is really is painless cuz they inject whatever it is into you gums to numb your mouth. hope all goes well
Reply:You should definately explain to your dentist what you've said here, and that you are nervous. Tell them that you don't know what to expect, and that you would like everything explained to you as you go. Try to brush at least twice a day, and floss every day. You should start going for check ups every six months.
Reply:Make sure your dentist knows that you've never been. That should help them actually. If you're curious about anything that they're going to do or have any questions or worries, then feel free to ask them.

I've been seeing a dentist my whole life but I bet the first thing they'll do is clean your teeth. Which is normally painless unless they hit one of your cavities but I'm sure they'll be careful around them.

Having cavities filled normally doesn't hurt unless they don't get you numbed up all the way.(On a side note, some dentists use the happy gas stuff to mellow you out rather then shots, but I've never had it.) I'm a pain to get all the way numb but if you feel any pain when they do it just make sure to let them know. And try your best to relax. You'd be surprised how much that helps.

I know the worst part of getting cavities filled for me is the shots cause they hurt for a few seconds going in and after the numbness wears off you'll be sore where the needle was put in. Your tooth actually shouldn't bother you much after. The numbness can be really annoying though. You can normally sleep it off and sometimes eating something helps get rid of it.

Wisdom teeth they'll probably talk to you about taking out.

As for how often you go in, I normally get cleanings(dental version of check ups) once or twice a year. If you have any problems though you just call and get an appointment.
Reply:its fun they poke around your mouth a bit.

some advice: close your eyes. you make it awkward by staring at them
Reply:wow. you should explain to the dentist your situation. your dentist will probably do a deep cleaning on your teeth since you've neve been to the dentist before. then you will probably have to go back several times because of the cavities to fill them and for a regular cleaning. also, if your wisdom teeth are hurting you or if you want them out, then you'll have to tell your dentist as well and probably refer you to an oral surgeon.
Reply:Its good you visit your dentist regularly especially when you have tooth problem. Visit http://mytooth.fateback.com for details
Reply:you should go to the dentist every 6 months, for regular check ups

having some fillings might hurt a little bit....but he will inject something in to your gum first.....

as you have an over bite - the dentist will refer you to the orthodontist.

also if you have any questions about teeth - ask her/him
