Getting paid $25.00 to show up at your children's parent-teacher conference, what is the USA coming to?

It just reinforces the impression that if everybody would just work hard enough and change their personal behavior we could solve poverty in this country, and that's not reflected in the facts," said Margy Waller, co-founder of Inclusion, a research and policy group in Washington.

Waller, who served as a domestic policy adviser in the Clinton administration, said it would be more effective to focus on labor issues, such as making sure wage laws are enforced and improving benefits for working people.

Among the possible rewards in New York's program are $25 for attending parent-teacher conferences, $25 per month for a child who maintains a 95 percent school attendance record, $400 for graduating high school, $100 for each family member who sees the dentist every six months and $150 a month for adults who work full time

who cares, it's ALL privately donated money, let them do as they will, i think it's more disgusting that advertisers get MILLIONS of dollars to try to get people to ask their doctors or influence doctors on what drugs to prescribe
Reply:That's idiotic.
Reply:I would support quadrupling those amounts, but make them only able to go toward tuition for college.
Reply:Did you know that kid whose parents would pay him for his grades? This is the same thing...except the government is paying the parents?? How ridiculous. They want to PAY people for carrying out the normal duties pf a productive citizen?? Give me a break. I can find alot more things to waste tax dollars on than that!
Reply:that is the stupidest thing I have ever heard why don't we just say that once your done with school that you are retired and deserve ssi
Reply:Well that's about stupid!

Then again %26lt;%26lt;counts kids and get out calculator%26gt;%26gt; that's about $5K a year......can I get my "good parent" money in small bills deposited directly into my vacation fund?

For pete sake -- c'mon you should not have to paid to be a good parent!
Reply:are you kidding me? that is completely against human trust and community

Funny. When my great-grandparents came over into this country - legally - and spoke NO english and had NO skills and had NO education, they WORKED.

And my grandparents graduated High School. And WORKED.

And my parents went to college. And WORKED.

And me and my siblings went to college AND graduate schools. And WORKED.

Hunger is supposed to do that to a person. Make them want more.

$400 for graduating high school? What will that pay for - the crack for the graduate and his/her crack buddy?
Reply:thats so stupid. its like getting paid for brushing ur teeth...or getting out of bed.

ur supposed to DO all those things because they are important... not because they will get you money!
Reply:the PUSSIFICATION of America

i'm leaving as soon as i graduate

are you with me???????????????????
