Tooth chipping away?

One of my teeth on the bottom is chipping. It's chipped about 3 times this month, including a suddenly painful chip 3 days ago. I'm at college in another state, and can't get home to the family dentist anytime soon.

I part that really bothers me, is the fact that I brush my teeth every evening, floss, use mouthwash... all of that. I don't eat hard candies or anything that would've chipped a tooth, nor have I hit my mouth on anything.

Any ideas on what might be causing this? I'm suspecting a mineral deficiency because I'm vegetarian.

Tooth chipping away?
tounge ring? that does it for a lot of people...
Reply:It sounds to me like you aren't getting enough calcium..
Reply:A daily Vitamin and Mineral supplement should do. I understand that vegetarians and Vegans need to get their vitamin B 12. Why are you not talking with your Physician about it. Protein is also very important that you get enough of. Sensodyne has a pronamel toothpaste that may help. However you should be taking care of that tooth ASAP There should be a good Dental Office in the College Town where you are, since you cannot get home. Do take care, of this tooth.
Reply:Your top and bottom teeth must be hitting hard against each other, another reason would be nail biting or putting objects between your teeth, like push pins.

You may need to have the chipped areas smoothed and the hard interferences adjusted by a dentist
Reply:Have you ever had a really high fever when you were younger? Like about 105%? Mine went that high a couple of times. The Doctor told my Mom, he thought that it cracked my teeth. I have the same thing going on with my teeth. I floss every day, Brush two times a day,am constantly buying new tooth brushes. Then I take one bite of an orange, and my back tooth breaks. That is the second one! So, maybe you did have a high fever, that could have caused it. I am not a vegetarian, so it isn't that! Byee
Reply:Its hard to tell without actually seeing you or your medical/dental history. A mineral defficiency wouldnt affect your teeth as your permanent teeth start developing pretty much as soon as your born and are finished developing when they have fully erupted in your mouth.

A possible answer may be that you are a bruxist. This means you grind your teeth. This could be stress related or there is also a condition called nocturnal bruxism where people grind there teeth when they are asleep.

Other things that it could be include a malocclusion, where the teeth dont meet properly putting extra stress on that tooth or maybe you chew a pen while your working. i dont know...

My advice is to go and see a dentist asap and he may be to diagnose whats wrong and also restore the tooth for you.

If your in pain go see an emergency dentist where you live and they will treat you.
