Could someone tell me if they know of a good swimming instructor that work with children with special needs.
Also looking for a dentist that have got an interest in treating dental problem for a child with Down syndrome. I felt the NHS dentist has badly treated the dental issues for this child and today his teeth are coming out of place. I do not think these dentist would have treated a child from the royal family this way.
Thanks for your help
Swimming instrutors and dentists for downs children?
Hi there i am not too sure about the swimming but i used to be a carer with adults with learning disabilities and there was a practice in canterbury that would see them but as for treatment i beleave that all treatment would be done under either general anaesthetic or sedation as we are not 100% sure of how they will react and how much they understand what is going on. If you contact your local PCT they would be able to give you numbers or dentists in your area that accept patients on the NHS and then you can ask them about treatment form people with downs syndrome. Hope i helped.
Reply:In the US is an organization, the Association for Retarded Citizens, which has references %26amp; resources for families like yours. You might also check with the Canadian or UK Dental Association; they are usually eager to promote their services by recommending dentists who are good with children, good with special needs patients, etc.
Reply:Hiya, contact your local park and recreation district..or the pool in your area. I am sure they have someone on their staff who specializes in working with people that have DS. As far as a dentist, I dont know..you might ask other parents of DS kids and see who they can recommend. Best of luck!!
Reply:Trouble is, nobody knows where you are located to give you useful advice!
Any dentist will do that job for you. Just go and see another one.
As for swimming coaches...my friend has a ds boy who is a world record holder. He trains in squad with his younger sister. I don't understand why your ds child cannot train in any children's squad... or learn to swim with your other children. I appreciate more time is required and more patience .. but all the mechanisms are the same... arms and legs, turn head to breathe.
Reply:Assuming you are in the UK, try PALS- the Patient Advice and Liason Serice which will be found in the phone book or internet locally to where you are. Also NHS direct may be able to help 0845 46 47 but I would try PALS first.
Reply:Hi,
