Can dentists accept 80% payment as 100%?

New to this area, I am trying to find a dentist for my family. The first dentist was wonderful, but required an additional payment of my next born child for services. I have an awesome 80% dental coverage through work, and the old dentist accepted it as 100% payment. Was that just a fluke?

Can dentists accept 80% payment as 100%?
Yes. They aren't supposed to do that.
Reply:Each dentist is different, and not many will just hack 20% off the bill. You'll have to ask them.
Reply:Of course it was a fluke. Your old dentist was a nice person. There is no requirement that a dentist take any less than 100% of what he charges for his services.

You can look around. There may be a few in your new area who do the same. (But don't expect them to advertise the fact.)
